802.11 or IEEE 802.11 is a general standard created by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), which describes the development and mechanisms of wireless local networks (WLAN). 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g are enhancements of this standard, which are differentiated by data rate and frequency band.
